چکیده

We present the results of a multi-frequency study of the structural evolution of the VLBI jet in the BL Lac object 0716+714 over the last 10 years. We show VLBI images obtained at 5 GHz, 8.4 GHz, 15 GHz and 22 GHz. The milliarcsecond source structure is best described by a one-sided core-dominated jet of ∼ 10 mas length. Embedded jet components move su-perluminally with speeds ranging from 5 c to 16 c (assuming z = 0.3). Such fast superluminal motion is not typical of BL Lac objects, however it is still in the range of jet speeds typically observed in quasars (10 c to 20 c). In 0716+714, younger components that were ejected more recently seem to move systematically slower than the older components. This and a systematic position angle variation of the inner (1 mas) portion of the VLBI jet suggests an at least partly geometric origin of the observed velocity variations. The observed rapid motion and the derived Lorentz factors are discussed with regard to the rapid Intra-Day Variability (IDV) and the γ-ray observations, from which very high Doppler factors are inferred.

Kinematic Study of the Blazar 0716 + 714

We determined the kinematics at the jet of 0716+714 from a re-analysis of multi-frequency VLBI data (5, 8.4, 15, 22 GHz) obtained during the last 10 years combined with data from the literature. For this intra-day variable blazar, only a lower limit of its distance is known (z ≥ 0.3). We find that 0716+714 is a relatively fast superluminal source (with a Lorentz factor of γ > 15), revising earl...

Periodic Oscillations in the Intra - day Optical Light Curves of the Blazar S 5 0716 + 714

We present results of a periodicity search of 20 intra-day variable optical light curves of the blazar S5 0716+714, selected from a database of 102 light curves spanning over three years. We use a wavelet analysis technique along with a randomization test and find strong candidates for nearly periodic variations in eight light curves, with probabilities ranging from 95% to >99%. This is the fir...

Discovery of Very High Energy γ - rays from the famous blazar S 5 0716 + 714

The MAGIC collaboration reports the detection of the blazar S50716+714 (redshift uncertain) in very high energy gamma-rays. The observations were performed in November 2007 and in April 2008, and were triggered by the KVA telescope due to the high optical state of the object. The blazar S50716+714 is the third low frequency BL Lac detected at energies above 100 GeV until today. Here, we present...

Multi - frequency VLBA study of the blazar S 5 0716 + 714 during the active state in 2004 I . Inner jet kinematics

We observed blazar 0716+714 with the VLBA during the active state in 2003-2004. In this paper we discuss multi-frequency analysis of the inner jet (first 1 mas) kinematics. The unprecedentedly dense time sampling allows us to trace jet components without misidentification and to calculate the component speeds with good accuracy. In the smooth superluminal jet we were able to identify and track ...

INTEGRAL observations of the field of the BL Lacertae object S 5 0716 + 714 ⋆

We have performed observations of the blazar S5 0716+714 with INTEGRAL on 2-6 April 2004. In the first months of 2004, the source had increased steadily in optical brightness and had undergone two outbursts. During the latter, occurred in March, it reached the extreme level of R = 12.1 mag, which triggered our INTEGRAL program. The target has been detected with IBIS/ISGRI up to 60 keV, with a f...
